I find it absolutely hysterical when non-believers take 'holy books' more seriously than the majority of the believers do, as most believers, whether they are Christian or Muslim only take what is convenient to them.

Islam is Mohammed and islam is the quran, mohammed was the perfect man and the perfect example of conduct for all muslims and the quran is the perfect book, the original copy resides in heaven with alah. These are not negotiable corner stones of islam, any nominal muslim who does not submit to this understanding and embrace the full connotations of this is not a muslim.

Look at how the expression of Christianity has changed in two hundred years - not because of any revelation from god, but because secularism and pragmatism has rubbed off the awkward bits and allowed people to ignore large parts of the Bible.

Islam is at the beginning of this process in many countries. Outside of the febrile imaginations of those pushing divisive ideologies, many Muslims in the West are well down this road.

The fact is culture expresses religion; religion does not express culture.

if anyone takes the time to research the cases in addition to the fact some pretty marginal Muslims (i.e. they weren’t pillars of the Muslim community) didn’t get reported by their own community, the girls were failed by the parents, the police and social workers.

We can all get rightfully angry about sexual predators but the majority of the news coverage has failed to highlight the fact these girls were treated appallingly by those meant to protect them.

The good muslims don’t report the evil, they say nothing because they know under the laws of islam it is OK to treat unbelievers this way and to speak up would mark them as an apostate.

How did we come to know about this scandal, the rapes and terrible exploitation of thousands of young girls and the multi agency multi decade cover up??

We know about this now because Tommy and a few others put it all on the line and spoke up, he spoke up for his children and ours and for this, he is a political prisoner.

today the dutch house of representatives unanimously voted to petition the government to start an investigation into jw child abuse issues.. the request from the house of reps. came after jw nl refused to listen to repeated and serious requests from the government to start an independent investigation themselves.. now it's up to the government to either accept the request by the house of reps. and start an investigation, or refuse to do so and explain to the house why.

it appears the minister of justice is not unwilling to start an investigation though.... collection of dutch news items here.

Doubter, here is another way to look at it, where I live in Australia we have very strong work place health and safety laws that are designed to reduce on the job accidents and injuries.

As an employer I must have documented operating procedures and systems in place to identify and eliminate unsafe work practices, for the benefit of my workers.

If one of my workers suffers a serious injury or killed at work and it can be traced back to an unsafe machine or a unsafe work method etc that could have been made safe, then I would be in the line of fire for negligence.

How is the WTB$ any different, their policy is "oh you got hurt at work, have you got two witnesses?... sorry" and your report joins the huge bulge under the carpet.
